Get yourself a good set of ear phones and use them when practicing.Turn the music up so it can be heard over the drums.Relax and practice. It takes time to become good.I have a grand daughter who plays. She is fifteen. She set her own schedule and practices rudiments three nights for an hour and two nights she plays and has fun.

David here, 53 y.o. (should qualify as a geezer compared to most guys). Been drumming for my Church Band for a year and a half. Self taught, no drums in School, no pro lessons, just beating steering wheels and thighs for years. Not too shabby but definitely not Neil Peart lol. Like Praise/Worship and Classic Rock, 70s, 80s mostly but I like to do a bit of REM as well. The oldest pup in this business I guess.
